A loan is money you borrow 和 必须偿还 with interest under varying terms 和 conditions.

If you decide to take out a loan, make sure you underst和 who is making (i.e. offering) the loan 和 the terms 和 conditions of the loan. Student loans can come from the federal government, from private sources such as a bank or financial institution, or from other organizations. Federal student loans are available to most students regardless of income 和 provide a range of repayment options.

While it is important to be cautious of irresponsible borrowing, loans are considered an integral part of a student's 金融援助 package. Please carefully review the different types of loans available below 和 consider each one as a viable option for financing a college education.

美国.S. Department of Education’s federal student loan program is called the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (i.e. 直接贷款计划. Under this program, the U.S. Department of Education is your lender. T在这里 are four types of Direct 贷款 available:

  • Direct Subsidized 贷款 are loans offered to eligible under研究生 students who demonstrate financial need to help cover the costs of higher education at a college or career school. For eligibility, loan limits, terms 和 current rates/fees, click 在这里.
  • Direct Unsubsidized 贷款 are loans offered to eligible under研究生, 研究生, 和 professional students, but eligibility is not based on financial need. For eligibility, loan limits, terms 和 current rates/fees, click 在这里.
  • 直接PLUS贷款 are loans made to parents of 依赖 under研究生 students or 研究生/professional students to help pay for education expenses not covered by other financial aid.   • Direct Consolidation 贷款 allow you to combine all of your eligible federal student loans into a single loan with a single loan servicer.

Eligible students will be offered Direct Subsidized 和/or Direct Unsubsidized 贷款 upon completion of the FAFSA.

How to Apply for a Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan

的父母 依赖 students in the credential programs (excluding M.Ed + credential) may apply for a Direct Parent PLUS loan by following the steps below:

  1. Make sure your student has filed a FAFSA first.
  2. 完成 Direct PLUS Loan Application (Parent MUST sign in using their own FSA ID).
  3. 如果批准,签署a Direct PLUS Loan Master Promissory Note (或然数).
  4. 如果否认, you will be given detailed information on the options for qualifying by obtaining an endorser or appealing a credit decision, along with instructions on how to complete the required PLUS Counseling

Private | Alternative Loan

Private or alternative student loans are loans for under研究生 和 研究生 students from private sources, such as a bank or financial institution, generally used to supplement 联邦直接贷款.
